The diagram shows schematically the main brain structures for the control of saccadic eye movements, the corresponding functional aspects, and the type of saccade associated with it. The prefrontal structures (pf) and supplementary eye fields (sef) are associated with delayed and memory guided saccades. The lines represent functional influences, not necessarily anatomical connections. The arrows may represent excitatory or inhibitory actions. For example, "fixation" inhibits the saccade system.
